Plan and billing questions

Do I need an account?

You can start writing in Compose without creating an account. An account is only needed if you want to subscribe to Pro or Teams, manage billing, access support or administer a team.

Can I stay on Free?

Yes. Free is not a trial and does not expire. You can continue using it for as long as it meets your needs, and upgrade only when you want higher limits or access to paid features.

Are paid plans monthly or annual?

Pro and Teams are billed annually. Pro is £50 per year. Teams is £50 per paid seat per year. Before you pay, checkout shows the current price, any applicable taxes, when your subscription renews and the terms that apply.

What happens if I pay in another currency?

Prices are listed in GBP on this page. If checkout presents another currency, Stripe calculates the local currency amount at checkout using its current conversion process.

Is there a free trial?

Free is not a trial. You can use it for as long as it meets your needs and upgrade only when you want higher limits or additional features.

When should I choose Pro?

Choose Pro when you want to export professional DOCX or PDF files, work with comments and suggested edits, keep more notes and sources alongside your writing, save important versions of a document, or get support when you need help.

When should I choose Teams?

Choose Teams when you want to pay for Pro access for a group of people under one subscription. One person manages billing, seats and member access, while Teams also provides invitations, member roles and Team Spaces to help organise the group.

What is a seat?

A seat is a paid place on your team. Each person who needs Pro features uses one seat. For example, if five people need Pro access, your team needs five seats, which is £250 per year before any taxes or currency conversion shown at checkout.

What is a Team Space?

A Team Space is a way to organise people within your team. You might create separate spaces for different projects, clients, classes, departments or writing groups so it is easier to manage who belongs where. Team Spaces help organise members, but they do not store documents or create shared files.

What happens after checkout?

After payment, you will be returned to Compose and your plan should become active automatically. If you do not see your new access straight away, refresh the page or sign in again using the same email address you used during checkout.

Where do I manage my subscription?

Manage billing from your Compose account. If you have Pro, you can view your subscription, update payment details and manage renewal settings. If you own a Team, you can also manage seats, invoices, payment details and the team subscription from the same place.

What happens if I cancel?

If you cancel, your plan will not renew when the current billing period ends. You can continue using paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Can I get a refund?

If your first paid purchase is not right for you, contact support within 30 days and we will review your request. Refunds for renewals and other purchases are handled according to our Terms and any rights you may have under applicable law.

What happens to my documents if I change plan or cancel?

If you cancel a paid plan, you will still keep any .compose files you have saved. Your writing does not disappear when a subscription ends. The main change is that you lose access to paid features once your paid period finishes. To avoid losing access to work stored only in the browser, save important documents as .compose files before clearing browser data or moving to a new device.
